WHO에서는 1980년도부터 5차례 정자 검사결과에 대한 표준치를 발표하였는데요,

가장 최근에 발표된 WHO 정자기준치는 2010년 criteria 입니다.

WHO에서는 정자검사의 기준치를 마련하기 위해 4개 국가 14개 도시 4500명의 남성들 중, 일정 기준으로 선별하여 정자검사를 진행후 다음과 같은 데이터로 기준치를 마련하였습니다.

The exact analysis of the quality of a sperm sample is crucial for couples who have difficulty in conception.

A spermodiagramm checks:

Volume Count. The volume of the semen ejaculate, when the sample collection is complete, determines indirectly the good functioning of the reproductive organs, such as his prostate and the sperm cell. The volume of the test sample should be between 1.5 and 6 ml.

Sperm Count. The number of spermatozoa produced in one ejaculation, indirectly determines the level of the testicular function of a male. According to the most recent criteria of the WHO, the number of spermatozoa should exceed 15 million spermatozoa per millilitre.

Motility of spermatozoa. Spermatozoa are characterised by:

• progressive motility

• non-progressive motility

• or they can be immotile

The total of the progressive motile spermatozoa in a fertile sperm should exceed 32% in the first hour of observation (WHO, 2010).

Morphology of spermatozoa. Morphology is also a very important parameter of the quality of spermatozoa. To analyse their morphology, sperm cells undergo a specificialized screening, using individualized observation under a light microscope. In a fertile sample, spermatozoa with a normal morphology should exceed 5% (WHO, 2009).

이와 같은 기준치는 어디까지나 정자의 분포나 운동성, 형태가 어떤 수준인지 확인하기 위한 것이고,

정액검사 결과에 안 좋게 나오더라도 임신이 불가능하거나 하는 것은 아닙니다.
